Pair of Chairs, Architectural Art Deco | Mahogany and Ziggurat Motif (1930s)

We present to you a pair of chairs that are the quintessence of mature, architectural Art Deco. In the 1930s, designers moved away from wavy, rounded lines in favor of raw, elegant geometry inspired by modern architecture. These chairs are a perfect example of this trend. Their straight front legs and slightly saber-shaped rear legs provide excellent stability, and their refined form attracts the eye.

Ziggurat Motif and Noble Mahogany
What creates the unique value of these chairs are the horizontal backrest boards. They were cut into characteristic, stepped faults. In the history of art, this famous pattern is called the "ziggurat" motif - it referred to the rising American skyscrapers and was one of the most luxurious symbols of the Art Deco era.
The frames of the chairs are finished with a deep, striped mahogany veneer, which at that time was reserved only for premium furniture.

Modern contrast and professional renovation
The chairs were completely revitalized in our workshop (SkarbyPRLu):

- Joinery: We removed the old paint coatings to the raw wood. The mahogany was protected with the highest quality modern hard oil. The wood has a noble, silky-matt finish and is resistant to everyday use.

- Upholstery: We replaced the entire upholstery interior. We chose high-quality fabric in a cool, blue shade (melange structure). This modern color contrasts phenomenally with the hot, chocolate shade of mahogany, giving the chairs an incredible freshness.

Where will they work best?
Due to the sale in pairs, these chairs will be perfect as luxurious accent furniture - at a round coffee table in a bay window, at a stylish dressing table in a bedroom or as chairs for guests in a home office.
